Shininho, the Ending Fairy

LED 팬 with holographic effect

《Ending Fairy Shininho》 presents the face of Shininho, scanned in 2024 when she was eighty-six years old, on a 180 cm rotating LED fan. While the three-meter-tall figure in 《Shininho World Tour Project 2》 occupies the space as a public image equipped with armor and choreography, here a single face fills an apparatus close to the scale of a human body. The viewer encounters Shininho at eye level as she appears to float in midair, watching subtle changes in expression unfold across her wrinkled skin.

In K-pop, the “ending fairy” is a format in which, after a performance ends, the camera holds on a single member’s face for several seconds. The entire stage is compressed into one person’s expression, and this brief close-up circulates as an image through which an idol is identified and remembered. As Shininho, born in 1938, enters a format that has become established around the faces of young idols, the work also reveals whose faces this format has historically made visible.
